Juan Miguel Echevarria Jumps Huge 28-11.50 (8.83m) Wind-Aided Long Jump in StockholmPublished by
Echevarria, Duplantis Star at Stockholm Diamond League By Doug Binder, DyeStat Editor Juan Miguel Echevarria nearly jumped to the far edge of the pit in the long jump at the Stockholm Diamond League meet on Sunday in Sweden. The 19-year-old's jump was slightly wind-aided (+2.1w) but it was so far that he recoiled backwards from the the edge of the pit and lost a bit of distance. It's difficult to say what the jump would have measured from the spot where his feet landed in the sand. Elsewhere, it was a magical day for Mondo Duplantis, who slayed the final dragon on his way to the top of world pole vaulting. Duplantis jumped 5.86m to win the event and beat U.S. star Sam Kendricks for the first time in his career. "I finally beat Sam, which is a great relief off my shoulders," Duplantis told reporters afterward. Duplantis is a recent graduate of Lafayette HS in Louisiana and will represent Sweden at this summer's IAAF World U-20 Championships. More news |
